Six years

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

So today is the six year anniversary of me going out with the same girl. To celebrate this momentous occasion I have mailed her a gift that won’t arrive until two or three days from now and talked to her for about 15 minutes before she ran off to Vancouver for the weekend to watch a puppet show with an old coworker. Being in different countries sucks for things like this.

I went out and had mass quantities of dim sum with Dan-the-computer-ninja and his equally deadly new employers. 960 Grant is the new place for me to get dim sum. small, upstairs and delicous.

Now the packing / cleaning has begun since I have only two weeks until I can take possession of the Oaktown crib. Oh the joy of moving.

movin on up?

Yeah, I signed paperwork etc on the weekend to get a place in Oakland.  It’s a two bedroom place a block from the east side of Lake Merritt.  The neighbourhood is nice and quiet and BART isn’t too far away.  I move in next month so now I have to deal with the fun of packing all my stuff up and figuring out how it gets over there.

I also just dropped some money on a fancy new PPC 6700 and moved to Sprint.  I did all this because t-mobile just doesn’t have any reception at work and my phone just runs itself down in a day using max power to merely find/report back to a cell tower.

So, I put in an application for renting a two bedroom place in Oakland.  Yeah Oakland.  I’ve been told “Oh it’s come a long way since then!” and other such platitudes.  All I know is that this place is in the “nicer” part of town near Lake Merritt (a block away actually) and is stupidly cheaper than the place in which i currently reside.  The commute won’t be too bad as the BART ride is ~15 minutes and ends up not too far from where I am now.  I’ll know by Monday or so as to whether I get it or not.  Next up: the fun of moving.

Apparently I’ve lost the pool since Dallas couldn’t step up and beat Seattle yesterday. woo.  It was fun while it lasted.

why am i in a football pool?

Friday, January 5th, 2007

I decided to join this -really- ridiculous football playoff pool. 12 people, one for each team including wildcards. draw your team from a hat. wait. someone wins. zero skill or knowledge about how football, playoffs or odds is required. I have Dallas, apparently that’s not a good thing. In other news, I beat Guitar Hero 2 on medium last night. It was hard.

a loss

Apparently on my flight back to SF I lost my Cowon mp3 player. I was considering going and getting an Apple Shuffle yesterday since it’s cheap and really small/portable. Then I remembered Macworld SF is next week across the street and they always update all their shit at things like these so if I bought a 1GiB one yesterday it could be EOL’d and replaced with a 2GiB one next week. So I wait without portable music.

So let’s see, what has happened.

I flew back home and beat my luggage there by a day.  So when I arrived after 5PM on the friday night before xmas, I had to go to a mall and get clothes and other sundries instead of just enjoying time with the GF.   Always a good time.  And then there was the sickness; after spending two days in a nice small hotel in downtown Victoria, I rolled back up to the parents’ place with my sister on the 24th.  By the next morning I was feeling tired and several hours later I knew I had once again received the bestest of presents: a cold.  So instead of trying to get in contact with the many friends I still have up there, I sat around the house trying to stem the flow from my nose (gross).
The rest of the trip was as expected full of family, rainy, cold and in general a good time.  New Year’s Eve was another stupendous event, sitting at the GF’s place playing some Guitar Hero 2 and everyone’s favourite spelling game Scrabble (I won) and then to bed shortly after midnight.  Yes, that’s how I roll.

In other random news, I think I’ve fixed the planet.  It appears there’s some issues reading the cached data files so I say “caches are for suckers!” and nuke it before running an update.  Yes I’m lazy.
